The Youth’s Instructor
Ellen G. White Articles

NEW — One Volume e-Book Edition

JAMES WHITE pioneered the publishing ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He began publishing in 1849 what became the official church paper, known widely as the Review and Herald. For many years it was produced in Battle Creek, Michigan. Twenty-five years later, in 1874, Elder White began the publishing of The Signs of the Times magazine in Oakland, California.

But only three years (1852) after starting the Review and Herald magazine, James White began publishing The Youth’s Instructor for the benefit of the youth of the church. The editor wrote in the first issue, “We design that the Instructor shall be filled with sensible matter, not only for the benefit of small children, but for the instruction of the youth from 16 to 20 years of age.” What started out as a monthly, in 1879 became a weekly magazine and was published continuously until April, 1970.

Ellen White contributed an article to the very first issue of The Youth’s Instructor and during her lifetime contributed nearly 500. The vast majority of them were especially written for the younger audience of the Instructor. They were designed by Inspiration to make a significant contribution in the preparation of God’s youth for Christ’s soon return. It is the desire of the present publisher that that purpose will indeed be achieved in those who read these messages in this late hour.
This new edition is available on Amazon.com for all Kindle devices and in ePub format at lulu.com; Apples' iBookstore; and Barnes and Noble stores.

“Dear Young Friends:

“You live in a dark and wicked world, subject to sickness, pain and death. You may see many things that look beautiful; but how soon they fade away. You may have a dear friend that you love; but soon that one may be torn from you by sickness and death, and you will then feel lonesome.

“You should have something substantial to fix your minds and affections upon, that can give real satisfaction and joy, and cheer your spirits in this dark world, and cause your sorrows to bring joy in the end. . . .

“The lovely Jesus laid aside His glory, and came into this dark world, and took upon Himself our nature, to be wounded for our transgressions, to be bruised for our iniquities. O, what love for us. He led a self-denying life, and had not where to lay His head. He was a man of sorrow and acquainted with grief, was despised and rejected, and finally was crucified for us.” Ellen G. White, The Youth’s Instructor, August 1852.

The 477 articles included in the one volume photofacsimile reproduced collection of The Youth’s Instructor Ellen G. White Articles have each been recorded into their individual MP3 file and numbered sequentially as they appear in the printed volume. The recordings were made at 32kbps. There are up to ten recordings per folder and most folders are 10 – 20 MB in size.

Text-to-Speech technology has progressed tremendously over the last decade. Most individuals will be amazed at how well an electronic reader can communicate verbally. Many hours have been spent “educating” the speech engine used in these recordings to pronounce properly these spiritual messages. Unfortunately, there are a number of words in the English language, which are spelled the same but are pronounced differently and have a different meaning when in a different setting or tense. For example: “I will read the article” and “I have read the article.” Another example: “I live in Boston” and “There are live tigers at the zoo.” It has not been possible to educate the speech engine in these types of instances. But in spite of some drawbacks, the Text-to-Speech technology allows us to provide audio recordings of large numbers of inspired writings in a very profitable listening form and convenient manner.
